Sand slipping through fingers

in streams that are running

your scent takes my memory

away when it fades

Laughter is long gone

the lakes and the valleys

a treasured time spent

in a summertime haze

Promises whispered

not meant to be broken

the shadows will keep watch

until I return

Many years later

found fragile and weeping

an echo of fire

which longingly yearns

I ask of you kindly

sweet gentle reminders

please play my strings softly

when strumming my heart

If love must endure

though the melody lovely

souls can’t harmonize

while they are apart
