tree of me

Writer's picture: James KinranJames Kinran

There are so many branches on this life-tree of mine that I am shaking right now;

seeing what falls out… seeing what clings… judging what to prune, where,

and how much to be healthy — to promote new and stronger growth...

I may be putting too much weight on certain limbs.

I am surely clipping too close in some areas, while not enough in others…

but there are certain things you can only learn by doing.

When your roots are strong, why fear?

If I plummet, it will be because sometimes you need to know how to fall out of a tree in order to climb it.

It won’t be because the trunk was a little crooked or because the tree conspired to loose me from its arms.

If I aim for a branch, too high, and miss—rest assured:

I am using that opportunity to plan my next ascent.

It was necessary.

We spend the first few precious years of our lives learning how to fall and stand up again. Stumble 7 times—recover 8.

I must learn how to fail.

We only get that opportunity by doing.

Won’t you come with me on this journey?

If... (no, when!) I fail:

I hope I fail spectacular
